The Chapter offers sewing help to the public at Jo Ann Fabrics the first Saturday of each month. At the annual meeting held during September, National Sewing Month, the guild struts its stuff with a fashion show, all items made by members. There is also a display of other non-wearable items. Classes are taught all day.

The Chapter has sponsored national sewing educators; Shirley Adams, who had shows on the local PBS television station MPBN, Sally Cowan, teacher, educator, who was awarded the Key to the City of Bangor by Gerry Palmer during her stay here, and this year, the Chapter hosted Clotilde, who started her million dollar mail order business selling pins. She offers thousands of sewing notions in her catalog, and teaches nation wide on the uses of many of them.

The members of the Chapter come from all walks of life. Whatever each does for a profession, sewing takes first place as a part time business or hobby. Sewing, the great stress reliever.

Support Activities
The Bangor Area Chapter of the American Sewing Guild meets to sew for needs; positioning pillows for the Levenson Center, preemie wardrobes for the neonatal clinic, Christmas stockings for the Foster Children program, making table coverings for the “Bid and Boogie” cancer fundraiser, working with the Girl Scouts, a local 4-H group, the list goes on and on.
Our Organization
The Bangor Area Chapter of the American Sewing guild was formed in 1993, with 12 enthusiastic members. Since that time the Chapter has grown to 50 plus. The Chapter welcomes members who live within a 50 to 75 mile radius of Bangor. It has evolved into a group of very industrious women who meet to learn new techniques in Neighborhood Work Groups.
